FAQ's

Why Home Veterinary Service?

There are two compelling reasons for home veterinary care: Comfort for your pet and convenience for you.

Most of our patients are far more at ease in their own home than in the clinic. This not only makes the veterinary exam and treatment less stressful, it also eliminates the fear that is sometimes associated with travel or being surrounded by strange animals and exotic smells. Because most pets are more relaxed at home than in a clinic, a better physical examination by the veterinarian is possible. Our home exams are also longer in length and allow us to assess the home environment and provide constructive care suggestions.

For pet owners, home veterinary service eliminates myriad hassles of driving and parking and child care and it saves times. There will be no need to plan travel time or wait in a lobby. Although delays can occur, you are at home and can carry on with your daily activities. Best of all, the cost of our services are competitive with other animal hospitals in the area.

What are DCHomeVet’s appointment hours?

We book appointments Monday through Friday, with evening appointments possible. We will do the best we can to accommodate your schedule and needs. Please allow one hour for the appointment.

How do I make an appointment?

To book a home appointment, please call (202) 423-3623 or send an e-mail, with your phone number, to dan@dchomevet.com.

What form of payment do you accept?

We accept only cash or check for home visits. In the clinic cash, check or credit cards are accepted. Payment is required at the time of service.

Do you accept pet insurance?

Payment is required at the time of service. We will be happy to fill out insurance forms for you. The insurance companies then reimburse you.

What if I have an emergency?

DCHomeVet generally only sees routine, non-emergency cases. Daytime emergencies are seen by CityPaws Animal Hospital at 1823 14th Street, NW Washington, DC 20009. Their phone number is 202-232-7297.

For nighttime emergencies, please see the emergencies page.

Where do you perform surgery?

Surgeries, hospitalizations, x-rays and other procedures that cannot be provided in the home, are conducted at CityPaws Animal Hospital. Dr. Teich is at the hospital on select days. Appointments for in-clinic visits should be made directly with the clinic.

What is your relationship with CityPaws?

DCHomeVet, an independent veterinary service, is based out of CityPaws Animal Hospital. DCHomeVet refers its emergencies and cases, which cannot be seen in the home, to CityPaws. Surgeries are also performed at CityPaws, either by Dr. Teich or by a CityPaws veterinarian. We cooperate to provide the greatest service possible to the pets of the District of Columbia.

What types of animals does DCHomeVet see?

Our home practice is limited to the care of dogs and cats.
